Getting started with Lasso
Install the extension, sign in and leave your first comment on a real page. Then a quick map of everything else Lasso does, with a guide for each part.
If you've ever left a comment in a Google Doc, you already know most of Lasso. The difference is where the comment goes. Instead of a doc, it's the actual website, stuck to the button or headline you were looking at, with a screenshot Lasso grabs on its own.
Two minutes is about what this takes. Then there's a list at the bottom with a short guide (and a clip) for every other part.
Install it and sign in
Grab Lasso from the Chrome Web Store. I'd pin it to the toolbar while you're there, because you'll be clicking it a lot.
Click the icon and the side panel slides open on the right. Sign in, or make an account if you don't have one. There's already a collection waiting for you called "Welcome to Lasso", full of sample notes. It doesn't count against your plan, so break whatever you like.
Think of the panel as home base. Up top is the collection you're working in. Below that, every comment on the page you're on. And the orange button adds a new one.
Your first comment
Go to any page. Yours, a competitor's, your favorite news site, it really doesn't matter. Hit Add comment in the panel (or Alt+C, Option+C on a Mac) and things on the page start lighting up as your mouse passes over them.
Click whatever you want to talk about. A box opens right next to it. Type, then ⌘ Enter to save (Ctrl+Enter on Windows).
And that's honestly it. You'll see a little numbered pin on the page and a matching card in the panel, screenshot attached.
Some small things people usually ask about on day one.
- Typing @ pulls up your teammates. Whoever you pick gets an email with the comment, the picture and a link that drops them on that exact spot.
- Changed your mind halfway? Escape throws the draft away.
- When the note is about a whole section rather than one thing, you can drag a box instead of clicking. Here's how.
- On a long page, clicking a card in the panel scrolls you straight down to its pin.
Everything else
Each of these is short, and each one has a clip so you can see it before trying it.
- Create a collection for a project
- Share it with your team, or don't
- Comment on an area by dragging a box
- Reply, mention and resolve
- Share one comment with a super link
- Find things in the web app
- Present feedback in a review
- Export it all for AI

Questions people ask
Do my teammates need the extension?
Only to comment on the page itself. Anyone you share a collection with can read, reply and resolve in the Lasso web app from any browser, and the extension adds the pins on the live page.
Which browsers does Lasso work in?
Chrome, and Chromium browsers that install from the Chrome Web Store, like Edge and Brave.
Is Lasso free?
Yes. The free plan has unlimited comments in one collection, and every new account gets 14 days of Studio with nothing to pay.
