How screenshots work in Lasso
Lasso takes a screenshot every time you leave a comment, cropped to the element or area you picked. Here's when it's taken, what's in it and where it shows up.
Writing the note is the easy bit. The slow bit is the screenshot. Cmd Shift 4, crop, red circle, paste into Slack, and then someone still asks which page that was. Lasso just takes it for you.
When it's taken
Lasso grabs it right when you click, or when you let go of a box you dragged. The comment box hasn't even opened yet. So write as slowly as you like. If the carousel slides on or a banner closes while you type, your shot already has the version you meant.
What's in it
- Click an element and the screenshot is cropped to that element.
- Drag a box and it's cropped to exactly the area you drew. Handy for layout notes, see comment on an area of a page.
- Lasso stays out of it. Pins, the outline and the comment box aren't in the image, so it shows the page and nothing else.
One catch. Lasso only sees what's on your screen right now, so a really tall element gets cut at the edge of the window. Zoom out a bit first, or just box the bit you care about.
Where you'll see it
You never attach it anywhere. It goes wherever the comment goes.
- The side panel. Each comment card shows its screenshot under the text.
- The web app. Click a screenshot to open it full size, and zoom in on the details.
- Emails. Reply and mention emails include the screenshot of the comment they're about, so people can see what you mean before they open anything.
- Exports. The PDF report has every screenshot built in. The Markdown export for AI links to each one. More on that in export feedback for AI.
- Super links. A teammate who opens a comment's link sees the screenshot next to the live page. More in share a comment with a super link.
Why the page still matters
A screenshot shows what the page looked like. The pin shows where it is now. When the page changes after a fix, open it with Lasso and you can compare the two in a second, which is usually how a comment gets resolved.

Questions people ask
Do I need to take screenshots myself?
No. Every comment gets one automatically, cropped to what you clicked or the box you drew. There's nothing to capture, crop or upload.
Will the Lasso pins or the comment box end up in the screenshot?
No. The screenshot is taken the moment you click, before the comment box appears, and Lasso keeps its own pins out of it.
Does it work when the page is zoomed in or out?
Yes. Lasso crops using the page's own zoom level, so the screenshot matches what you picked.
Who can see my screenshots?
The people in the collection. Screenshots are stored privately with the comment, and a deleted comment takes its screenshot with it.
